History: The breed has existed in
Ireland for centuries, but it's origin has been obscured
by time.
Colors and Coats Available:
Fairly short, wiry, dense, laying close to the skin.
Longer hair permitted only on beard.
Average Heights and Weights:
Approximately 18 inches, and 27 lbs for dogs and 25 for
bitches.
Grooming and Special Care Needed: Minimal
grooming requirements
Health Concerns: Similar to those
found in other medium size terriers.
Average Life Span: 12 - 14 Years
Best Suitable Environment: Irish
Terriers can adapt to many environments, but they do
require a fair amount of exercise.
Personality/Temperament: These
terriers are very eager to please their owners, they
learn fast! While nearly all terriers can be aggressive
towards other dogs, the Irish are much easier going than
most.
One of the best kept secrets in the dog world, Irish
Terrier pups are great family companions, these dogs are
alert, friendly, and eager to please their owners. Quite
mild and calm for a terrier Their medium size makes them
a good choice for families with active children. And on
top of their wonderful personalities, they have a low
maintenance hair coat that requires only minimal
grooming.
